Frequently Asked Questions

At River City Food Bank (RCFB), all people are welcome!

During the intake process, you will be asked some questions for information purposes, but you do not have to provide it to receive food.

We suggest bringing the following items:

  1. Your own cart or bags to carry groceries
  2.  ID is helpful, but not required

RCFB strives to provide an assortment of healthy food options, which will depend on the season and availability. During distribution, you will be offered:

  1. Dried goods (e.g. pasta, beans, rice, etc.)
  2. Canned goods (e.g. canned fruit, canned vegetables, soup, tomato sauce, etc.
  3. Fruits & Vegetables (e.g. apples, oranges, bananas, etc.)
  4. Dairy (e.g. milk, yogurt, cheese, eggs, etc.)
  5. Protein (e.g. chicken, pork, beef, peanut butter, tuna, etc.)
  6. Bread/whole grains (e.g. sliced bread, English muffins, tortillas, etc.)

Midtown: If you do not have access to a kitchen or storage facilities, you may choose the “non-cook” option of ready-to-eat food instead of the regular distribution line. Guests must choose one or the other.

Midtown: If you have any special dietary food needs (e.g. gluten-free, vegetarian, vegan), please ask a staff member or volunteer to see what options may be available.

Arden: There are “non-cook” bags of ready-to-eat food available upon request. You may receive a bag and go through the distribution line.

Please do not block driveways or neighbor’s properties. Please note any “no parking” or hourly parking signs.

Midtown: Only street parking (for 1-2 hours) is available. Please do not park in the Church parking lot next door as it is paid permit only and you will be towed.

Arden site: Parking is available in the lots at The Center at St. Matthew’s during our hours of operation. Street parking is also available.

Non-food items are subject to availability.

Arden: Baby food, formula, diapers and wipes and other hygiene items will be made available at RCFB’s monthly diaper distribution. Pet food (subject to availability) will be provided upon request.

Midtown: Hygiene items (e.g. shampoo, soap, deodorant, feminine products, toothpaste and toothbrushes) and pet food will be offered on the distribution line when available.

The wait-time varies based on several factors, including but not limited to arrival time, number of volunteers, item amount and variety and time of year (longer around holidays).

Midtown: If you are in line by 1:30pm, you will receive food.

Arden: Arrive early to receive a number. 500 numbers are distributed for the day. If 500 households have been served prior to 1:30, we will serve as many additional households as we can before 1:30pm.

Though the line may look long, it will move quickly once distribution begins at 10:30am. On average, 100-150 people are served per hour.

Yes, you can pick up food for one other household.

  • If you pick up for both households on the same day, only one will receive only USDA items (e.g., canned and dry goods)..
  • To get the full grocery offering for both households, please come on two separate days.

If picking up for someone else, please complete this form and bring with you.

Each household may receive a full grocery offering once per week.

You may return to RCFB as needed but, if returning a second time the same week, you will only be able to access USDA items (e.g., canned and dry goods).

Unsheltered guests, who do not have a place to cook or store food, can access perishable and canned foods once per distribution day.

Volunteers will offer all households a variety of food items that you may accept or decline. They will also inform you of the maximum quantity you may receive per item.

All households, regardless of size, will have access to the same quantity of food.
